   THE TRIP

-After the Earthquake Jan. 12, 2010- that mostly destroyed all of Haiti, I signed up to go with Habitat for Humanity. I was just accepted for the team that is leaving in November. I have volunteered with both medical and construction skills. I don't  know when I will know my actual "duty assignments".  We are going to LEOGANE, which is about 30 kilometers / 12  miles  west of the capital , Port au Prince, and considered at the epicenter of the quake.                                                                 POST SCRIPT
- I expect the devastation to be similar to New Orleans- that was virtually unchanged a year after hurricaine Katrina. I expect the conditions ,which were already incredibly destitute, to be difficult to fully comprehend and  even more elusive to convey in writing or a few photos as I share the  unfolding experience with my blog subscribers. What I will also try to grasp is the incredible underlying poverty , and  damage that the years of corruption and exploitation have caused to this island . There are some amazing reasons why the other half of the island, the Dominican Republic is better off...and I hope to engage your interest and show you why you should help. Support my trip.
